The Lakes at Castle Hills is proud to have served as host for the 2012 Texas WomenÂ’s Open on June 20 and 21. Jody Fleming of Melbourne, Australia, captured the Texas WomenÂ’s Open at The Lakes at Castle Hills by five strokes over Kelsey Kipp of Tyler, Texas, with a final round score of 7-under par, 65 and 6-under par, 138 tournament total. The tournament serves to promote the game among female golfers in the region.
New to the championship this year was the Senior Division for participants aged 50 or older who elected to compete for a separate $2,100 purse and played at a modified yardage. Nancy Beck of Dallas was the 2012 Senior Champion. Rachel Smith of Mansfield, Texas, captured the low amateur award with a final round score of 3-over par, 75 and 3-over par, 147 tournament total. Haley Wilson of Fort Mitchell, Alabama, had a hole-in-one on the par-3, 7h hole. Wilson used an 8-iron from 145 yards.
The Lakes at Castle Hills is a newly renovated 18-hole championship course located in the master-planned community of Castle Hills in Lewisville, Texas. Following the Texas WomenÂ’s Open, The Lakes will welcome the Texas State Open, the premier championship for the Northern Texas PGA August 2 through August 5. This year marks the tournamentÂ’s return to Dallas after being in Tyler, Texas, for the last six years. The Lakes at Castle Hills is a Bright Realty development.
