In an exciting announcement last month, the PGA Tour said their upcoming Web.com event—the “Greater Dallas Open”—will be played June 1-7 at none other than The Lakes at Castle Hills golf course, a Bright Realty development. The Northern Texas PGA Section and its 501(c)(3) Junior Golf Foundation will assume host organization responsibilities. It is slotted as the 11th tournament on Web.com Tour’s 2015 schedule.
There was a palpable buzz throughout the professional golf community following the announcement about the location for this year’s event, including comments made by four-time Web.com Tour winner Hunter Haas, who has been a member of The Lakes at Castle Hills for three years. According to PGATour.com, Haas “plays the majority of his golf out of The Lakes at Castle Hills, and he anticipates the recently redesigned course to provide a reputable challenge for him and his Web.com Tour peers during the event.”
Web.com Tour president Bill Calfee said, “We think The Lakes at Castle Hills will provide an excellent venue in terms of both layout and facilities. Word has already spread quickly and our players are looking forward to playing there in June.”
Dallas Morning News golf writer Bill Nichols was also impressed with the location choice. “Since Bright Realty assumed management of The Lakes at Castle Hills, the club has hosted several prominent events, including the NTPGA’s Bright Realty Texas State Open since 2012; first stage PGA Tour qualifiers in 2012 and 2013; and AT&T Byron Nelson Championship open qualifiers.”
Closer to home, Bright Realty CEO Chris Bright lauded the choice as an opportunity to showcase the club’s extensive renovations. “This prestigious event is a milestone in our ongoing efforts to showcase the competitive playing conditions at The Lakes,” said Bright. In addition to showcasing the ongoing golf course improvements at The Lakes at Castle Hills, the tour coincides with the completion of the first phase of clubhouse renovations which thus far has seen the addition of a new tennis center, new aquatic center, new fitness center and much more.
The Web.com Tour is another milestone for Bright Realty, developer of Castle Hills. In 2011 Bright Realty assumed full management of the golf club, originally founded in 1999. After changing the club’s name to The Lakes at Castle Hills, Bright Realty began an extensive golf course renovation – new greens surfaces, new bunkers and an improved maintenance program - in the summer of 2011, for which it was awarded “Renovation of the Year” by Avid Golfer. Currently, there is water on 17 of the 18 holes, as well as premium Arkansas crushed-quartz bunker sand. The 270 acres at The Lakes at Castle Hills was originally Bright Family Farm land.
With NTPGA alums Cody Gribble, Hunter Haas, Paul Haley II, J.J. Killeen, Kelly Kraft, Edward Loar, Anthony Paolucci, Martin Piller and Matt Weibring all owning membership on the Web.com Tour in 2015, the Greater Dallas Open will provide a unique opportunity for fans to see the success stories of the NTPGA junior program in person and cast their votes on who they think is the next big name using the #WHOSNEXT hash tag across their favorite social media platforms.
